ABOUT THE 5TH ‘BONUS’ ALBUM IN THE SERIES:

“This is a bonus album of out-takes and jams. In my opinion, it never came together as a cohesive album, but it's hard to know what people will like (often it’s different from what I like). I'm always surprised by what people like.

The initial idea for this album was to do a purely traditional 'no frills' Blues album, but as songs were added it went sideways because I wanted to experiment (I always do!) and some of those experiments became futuristic and not very traditional. Don’t get me wrong, there are some super cool and great tracks on this Bonus Album. All of the songs have some form of merit, but its still questionable in my mind whether they fit together on one album. I’ll describe them for you:

⚫ ‘Butter on My Blues” is a cool John Mayall and the Blues Breaker’s inspired song that I wrote (one of my favorites); I also do “Steppin’ Out,” which was one of their classics.

⚫ “Feel Good Blues” is nice B.B. King type of number — chilled out and intended to make you feel good.

⚫ The Pink Panther is the Pink Panther, done on a Fender Telecaster. And as you can hear, I’m starting get away from the traditional Blues. I couldn’t help myself! I always loved that song and wondered if I could reinterpret it for the guitar.

⚫ “Buzzsaw Blues” is raw minimalistic foot-stomper that sounds like it’s on a slide guitar, but it’s not. It’s just a telecaster again. And it’s a really powerful riff.

⚫ “Telecaster Lullaby” is a slow and sweet experiment that starts to mildly flirt with modern stylings.

⚫ “Space Blues” and “Red Motion” are full-on futuristic tunes, and “Red Motion” has a crazy-fun intro. I tried to take it off the album several times, but the intro is too fun.

⚫ “Dawn of the Blues” is a tip of the hat to my bandmate, the legendary lap steel Bluesman Freddie Roulette, and the great Earl Hooker. (Earl Hooker’s band morphed into the band Freddie and I made together.)

Overall I would describe this 5th Bonus album as preliminary sketches for the main 4 albums that make up the box set called, “HEROES FOR GHOSTS.”

The 5th album is a mix of traditional Blues and Rock blended with futuristic elements.’’
